Today's post is based on Dr. Mark Hyman's video via onecommune.com and is quite an eye-opener! Did you know that 98% of Americans are not getting enough Omega 3's, 80% are deficient in Vitamin D, 50% in magnesium, and 10% in Vitamin C?
He also explains how essential minerals are important to our diet. Zinc is an important immune boosting mineral that helps with hair volume, thyroid balance, and testosterone. Magnesium is known as the relaxation mineral because it can help your muscles relax and help with sleep. It also helps with blood sugar. Iron helps transport oxygen to the brain so it's important for brain function and it helps with sleep, too!
So why are so many people undernourished? According to Dr. Hyman, these are the 4 main problems we face, which is why getting a blood test and guidance can be so important to understanding and maintaining proper health.
1) Eat WILD. We used to eat wild and our food contained higher vitamins, minerals and essential fats.
2) SOIL. Our soil is depleted so we can no longer get the same nutrients from conventional and industrial farming that produce our vegetables and meat that we once could.
3) PROCESSED FOOD. They have no nutrients. That's why so many processed foods are "fortified."
4) TOXINS. Toxicities we're exposed to, whether it be from our environment or food source, makes it harder for us to get the nutrients we need.
