Why Face Oil is Your Best Anti-Aging Friend After 40

Hey Beautiful,
Facial oils can provide several benefits to your mature skin which we'll discuss here today.
After the age of 40, our skin tends to become drier and loses some of its natural elasticity. Without enough hydration, your skin may become crepey and you may see more wrinkles. Facial oils, especially olive oil, can help address these concerns and prevent water loss.
Here are some of the benefits of using facial oil, particularly after the age of 40:
- Hydration: Facial oils act as excellent moisturizers by sealing in moisture and preventing water loss from the skin. This helps to keep the skin hydrated, which is particularly important for mature skin that tends to be drier.
- Nourishment: Facial oils contain essential fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants that nourish the skin. These nutrients can help improve the overall health and appearance of the skin, promoting a more youthful and radiant complexion.
- Anti-aging properties: Many facial oils, including olive oil, are rich in antioxidants that combat free radicals. Free radicals contribute to premature aging, causing wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of aging. By neutralizing free radicals, facial oils can help minimize the appearance of these signs and support a more youthful complexion.
- Skin barrier protection: As we age, the skin's natural barrier function weakens. Facial oils can help strengthen and protect the skin's barrier, preventing moisture loss and environmental damage. This can lead to smoother, plumper, and healthier-looking skin.
This goes for your body, too!
Which is one reason we love using coconut oil it in our delicious, natural body scrubs and why we infuse all of our body care, like our Whipped Body Butter, with our Cold-pressed Olive Oil from Italy!
Now, let's discuss how specific oils can help regrow thinning brows and lashes:
- Olive oil: Olive oil is rich in vitamins A and E, which are beneficial for hair growth. Applying olive oil to the brows and lashes can help nourish the hair follicles, promote healthy hair growth, and enhance the thickness and length of lashes and brows.
- Coconut oil: Coconut oil is known for its moisturizing properties and can help condition the brows and lashes. It contains lauric acid, which has antimicrobial properties that can protect against infections or inflammation that may hinder hair growth
- Argan oil: Argan oil is abundant in essential fatty acids and vitamin E, making it an excellent choice for promoting hair growth. It nourishes the hair follicles, strengthens the hair strands, and can lead to thicker and healthier-looking brows and lashes.
- Jojoba oil: Jojoba oil closely resembles the natural oils produced by our skin, making it easily absorbed. It can help moisturize and condition the brows and lashes, promoting healthy hair growth. Jojoba oil also has antimicrobial properties, which can protect against potential infections.
- Castor oil: Castor oil is widely popular for its potential to promote hair growth. It contains ricinoleic acid, which has anti-inflammatory properties and helps stimulate blood circulation to the hair follicles. Applying castor oil to the brows and lashes can encourage thicker and fuller growth.
- Avocado oil: Avocado oil is rich in vitamins, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids. It nourishes the hair follicles, strengthens the hair strands, and can help stimulate brow and lash growth. Avocado oil also provides deep moisturizing value, making the hairs appear healthier and more lustrous.
We believe Squalane Oil (from Olives) deserves its own special mention, too, because it's so unique and ideal for mature and sensitive skin, which is why we use it in our Glow Oil recipe (image below).
Lightweight and non-greasy: Squalane oil has a lightweight texture that is easily absorbed into the skin without leaving a greasy or heavy residue.
Squalane oil can improve skin elasticity, which is the skin's ability to stretch and bounce back. With regular use, it can help firm and tone the skin, reducing the appearance of sagging or loose skin. Squalane oil also has emollient properties, meaning it helps soften and smooth the skin.
Last but not least, Squalane oil has antioxidant properties which neutralize free radicals and help minimize the signs of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles, and promote a youthful appearance.
How to use your Face Oil:
When applying your face oil, it should always be the last step in your AM skincare routine when not wearing sunscreen. This is only because oil can move your sunscreen around making it less effective.
In example, applying face oil after your facial moisturizer (day or night) is a great way to help keep your moisture locked in, leaving your dry or crepey skin more plump and hydrated with less visible wrinkles. We also recommend applying it over your Retinol at night when your skin needs some extra love.
How to use oils for thinning hair:
When using these oils for regrowing brows and lashes, it's important to apply them carefully to avoid getting the oil into your eyes, unless you only use cold-pressed organic Castor Oil which is generally, according to some doctors, said to be safe if it gets into your eyes.
Use a clean mascara wand or cotton swab to apply the oil gently to the brows and the base of the lashes. Consistency is key, so regular application over several weeks or months may be necessary to see noticeable results.
As with any new skincare product or routine, I always recommend a patch test, first.
Remember, the more you know the more you glow!
