5 Best Ways to Calm Inflammation and Heal Troubled Skin

5 Best Ways to Calm Inflammation and Heal Troubled Skin

Posted by JQ on Feb 17th 2020

Back in my 20's, I stopped taking birth control and experienced cystic acne for the first time.

It was painful, embarrassing and just darn confusing.

I now know there are products and services that can help your skin calm down or to ease the onset symptoms, and for that I'm so grateful.

Perhaps you don't have what you consider to be "skin issues" and you just need a little boost of hydration, or great preventative care and treatments to keep your skin in tip top shape.

Some folks, however, are aching emotionally from the self-consciousness that can come with on-going skin issues, so finding a quicker, service-oriented solution can be relieving.

It's like going to the doctor and getting a prescription drug without addressing, exploring, and understanding the root cause of the problem.

Some problems stem from your your digestive system (aka gut) so you may experience flare ups (autoimmunity) when this is not dealt with.

Bottom line, it's all about an integrative mindset.

As an esthetician I can give you amazing facials, address your condition and make you look better in the meantime -- BUT, without addressing what's going on inside, you may still experience continued flareups, and even negative changes in the microbiome of your gut and skin.

And who wants that?

That's why all of my skin consultative support is FREE with my facial services.

With my clients, I often notice strong connections between their skin problems and diet, which lead to issues like bloating, unhealthy weight gain, pre-mature aging and acne.

With my education and experience, I can offer you ancient remedies and supplement recommendations that are tried and true.

But it's important to know that not one shoe size will fit all.

One huge benefit of working with an experienced esthetician is that we can spend a lot more time with you than a dermatologist. This isn't to discourage you from going to one - I go to one myself and even recommend it to my clients!

But 20 minutes in an office once a year doesn't help guide you through concerns that arise on the fly or nurture and guide us through the emotional pain that comes with a lot of conditions.

They don't call me Dr. Quinn for nothing.

Ok, they don't call me Dr. Quinn at all, but still...

I've lived through the pain, too, and understand what you're going through!

All over the internet you can find "skin therapists" that charge A LOT for virtual consultations. These consultations are FREE for my clients, and for those who live far away -- we also offer education through my blog postsyoutube videos and our beauty-wellness support group (Heal Together Facebook group).

So what can I do now to calm inflammation?

  • Increase your intake of Omega-3 fatty acids to help your skin heal and recover faster.
  • Supplement with Turmeric - one of the more powerful anti-oxidants to help clear your skin.
  • Reduce your intake of inflammatory foods like alcohol, sugar, meat, dairy, and processed foods which can all be irritating, especially to an existing condition. For more on this, read here.
  • Use topical products that contain Aloe, which help comfort your skin and reduce inflammation.
  • Consider a detox or food sensitivity test to help reset your body or discover what may be a trigger.

BONUS TIPS!

When choosing an Omega 3, be sure to look for wild caught fish, like sardines or salmon that are lower in mercury.

Organic Turmeric comes in lots of digestible forms! You can purchase it in a pill form, or drinkable products, like in this video (Golden Milk - one of my favorites!) or check out our yummy turmeric latte recipe

While Aloe from your back yard is wonderful, many of us don't have that luxury or the consistence isn't ideal enough to stay on your skin, so we created something for you!

But if you want to go deeper, my good friend Larissa Ness is an IHP and she can help you get to the bottom of those health concerns and recommend more in-depth cleanses, or help you with food sensitivity testing.

You can also contact me here to request a virtual skincare consultation.
