Better Than Botox? Why Moisture May Be What Dry, Crepey Skin Needs First

Ciao, Beautiful!

Have you ever caught a glimpse of your arms, chest, hands, or even your face, in a certain light and thought, When did my skin start looking so dry and crepey?

If so, trust me when I say that you're not alone!! While it seems it happens over night, there's some marinating going on over the years, and shifts in appearance are totally normal and expected.

As skin changes with age, it often doesn’t hold on to moisture as easily as it once did. It can begin to feel tighter and look duller, rougher or more finely lined.

Dryness doesn’t cause every wrinkle, but it can make the lines you already have look much more noticeable.

So before assuming every line needs an injection, I always encourage women to ask a simpler question first:

Is my skin getting (and keeping) enough moisture?

Healthy-looking skin needs both water and oils. Water helps skin look fresh and plump, while natural oils help slow that water from escaping.

When skin is depleted, its surface can become rough and less reflective. Fine lines stand out more, texture looks uneven and that beautiful natural glow seems to disappear.

This is why consistent moisturizing can make dry lines look softer and skin appear smoother and more supple.

It isn’t freezing a muscle or erasing every wrinkle. It is simply giving your skin something it needs every day.

While Botox and skincare do two very different jobs, I actually think that skincare is better and here's why:

Botox is a prescription treatment that temporarily relaxes targeted facial muscles, which can soften the appearance of certain expression lines. A moisturizer or facial oil cannot, and should not claim to do that.

But Botox doesn’t hydrate dry skin. It doesn’t help your arms, legs, chest or hands retain moisture. And it can't replace the daily care that helps your skin look comfortable, polished and naturally luminous from your neck to your toes.

When your skin becomes depleted of moisture the dryness can make wrinkles look more visible. So by getting Botox or its equivallent, you're still not addressing one of the key issues that make wrinkles look more visible to begin with (besides muscle relaxation, which can be addressed with simple massage).

For dry, dull or crepey-looking skin, I believe better moisture support is the smartest place to begin. When your skin looks more hydrated it's likley to look as crepey or wrinkly. The same goes for your body.

So, you may find that once your skin looks softer, smoother and healthier, you feel much less pressure to “fix” every little line.

After more than 25 years as a licensed esthetician, I have watched women invest so much time and care into their faces while nearly forgetting the rest of their skin.

That’s why I created Glow Oil Body Serum—to give dry, changing body skin the same elevated care we already give our complexions.

This isn’t meant to feel like a thick, greasy body oil. It is a lightweight daily finishing treatment designed to soften dry texture, help seal in moisture and give skin a smooth, satiny glow.

The formula combines:

  • Organic fractionated coconut oil for lightweight softness and beautiful slip without a heavy finish.

  • Jojoba oil to condition the skin and help it feel supple.

  • Rosehip oil, naturally rich in skin-supporting fatty acids, to nourish dry, mature-looking skin.

  • Squalane for silky softness and a smooth, elegant finish.

  • High-quality rose, used at a deliberately low percentage to create a soft, refined signature scent rather than an overpowering perfume.

  • A touch of high-polyphenol extra-virgin olive oil from our family farm in Puglia, Italy—a deeply personal part of our story and approach to restorative beauty.

Together, these oils create a light emollient layer over the skin.

In simple terms, they help soften roughness and slow some of the water already in your skin from escaping.

That is how you get glow without looking or feeling greasy!

The best way to use our Glow Oil Body Serum is to apply it immediately after your shower or bath while your skin is still slightly damp.

This is because the water on your skin provides moisture and the oil helps seal it in.

Massage a small amount over your arms, legs, chest, shoulders and hands. If your skin is particularly dry, apply it over your favorite body moisturizer or body butter as the final step.

With consistent use, skin should feel softer and more comfortable and look smoother, more supple and naturally luminous.

When your face feels especially dry, depleted or suddenly more lined, whether from weather, travel, hormonal changes or simply a difficult skin week, try this simple three-step routine.

Think of it as: Hydrate. Moisturize. Seal.

Step 1: Hydrate and Plump With Hyaluronic Acid

Apply a few drops of QUINNtessential Hyaluronic Acid Serum to clean, slightly damp skin.

Hyaluronic acid attracts and holds water at the skin’s surface, helping dry fine lines look temporarily plumper and the complexion feel more comfortably hydrated.

Step 2: Comfort and Moisturize With Face Butter

Follow with Whipped Olive Face Butter.

This creamy, fragrance-free moisturizer gives dry skin the cushioning comfort it is often missing. It helps soften roughness and creates a more nourishing layer over the hydration from your serum.

Step 3: Finish and Seal With Facial Glow Oil

Press a few drops of QUINNtessential Glow Oil over your Face Butter as the final step.

The facial Glow Oil adds a lightweight emollient seal that helps reduce moisture loss while leaving the complexion soft, supple and naturally radiant.

If your skin doesn’t need all three steps every day, use this complete routine at night or whenever your complexion feels especially dry and depleted.

Start with a small amount of each product. You can always add a little more where you need it.

There is so much pressure on women to erase every sign that we have lived, smiled and grown!

But at almost 50, I'm over that BS! I'd rather help you understand what your skin is asking for and care for it accordingly.

Not every line needs a needle and sometimes your skin simply needs water, nourishing moisture and a way to hold on to both. Our goal at JQ is to help you feel more soft, refreshed, comfortable and beautiful without injections.

Shop Glow Oil Body Serum and start treating your body with the same care you give your face!

If dryness is persistent or accompanied by significant itching, redness, cracking or a rash, please see a dermatologist. Skincare can support dry skin, but it should not replace professional care for a medical skin condition.

The more you know, the more you glow!
