5 Best Ways to Calm Inflammation and Heal Troubled Skin

Back in my 20's, I stopped taking birth control and experienced cystic acne for the first time.
It was painful, embarrassing and just darn confusing.
I now know there are products and services that can help your skin calm down or to ease the onset symptoms, and for that I'm so grateful.
Perhaps you don't have what you consider to be "skin issues" and you just need a little boost of hydration, or great preventative care and treatments to keep your skin in tip top shape.
Some folks, however, are aching emotionally from the self-consciousness that can come with on-going skin issues, so finding a quicker, service-oriented solution can be relieving.
It's like going to the doctor and getting a prescription drug without addressing, exploring, and understanding the root cause of the problem.
Some problems stem from your your digestive system (aka gut) so you may experience flare ups (autoimmunity) when this is not dealt with.
Bottom line, it's all about an integrative mindset.
As an esthetician I can give you amazing facials, address your condition and make you look better in the meantime -- BUT, without addressing what's going on inside, you may still experience continued flareups, and even negative changes in the microbiome of your gut and skin.

So what can I do now to calm inflammation?
- Increase your intake of Omega-3 fatty acids to help your skin heal and recover faster.
- Supplement with Turmeric - one of the more powerful anti-oxidants to help clear your skin.
- Reduce your intake of inflammatory foods like alcohol, sugar, meat, dairy, and processed foods which can all be irritating, especially to an existing condition. For more on this, read here.
- Use topical products that contain Aloe, which help comfort your skin and reduce inflammation.
- Consider a detox or food sensitivity test to help reset your body or discover what may be a trigger.

When choosing an Omega 3, be sure to look for wild caught fish, like sardines or salmon that are lower in mercury.
