Essential Eye Area Tips After 40 and How To Remove Your Eye Makeup Correctly

Hey Beautiful!

Caring for your eye area after the age of 40 is important to maintain its health and youthful appearance.

Here are some beauty tips on how to properly care for your eye area, including how to remove your eye makeup correctly:

  • Moisturize: The skin around the eyes tends to become drier with age, so it's crucial to keep the area well-hydrated. Choose a gentle, hydrating eye cream or serum specifically formulated for mature skin and apply it morning and night. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, peptides, and ceramides that help restore moisture and improve the appearance of fine lines.
  • Sun protection: Protecting the eye area from the sun is essential for preventing premature aging. Wear sunglasses with UV protection and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 every day. Remember to apply the sunscreen around the eyes, being careful not to get it into your eyes. During the summertime, I particularly love using sunscreens like Nivea's Water Gel SPF 50 that dry fast and won't leak into your eyes.
  • Gentle eye makeup removal: Removing eye makeup can be done effectively and gently with the help of oils.

Here's a step-by-step guide to remove your eye makeup:

  1. Choose a gentle oil suitable for the eye area, such as jojoba oil, coconut oil or olive oil. These oils are generally safe and non-irritating for most people.
  2. Dampen a cotton pad or a soft cloth with a few drops of the chosen oil.
  3. Gently press the pad or cloth against your closed eye for a few seconds to allow the oil to dissolve the makeup.
  4. Gently swipe the pad or cloth across your eyelid and lashes, working from the inner to the outer corner. Be careful not to rub or tug harshly, as the skin around the eyes is delicate.
  5. Repeat the process if necessary until all the eye makeup is removed.
  6. Afterward, you can rinse your eye area with lukewarm water or use a gentle cleanser to remove any remaining residue. I prefer using an eyelid cleanser, like OcuSoft.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle contains several factors that contribute to the appearance of the eye area. Taking care of your overall health can positively impact the eye area's youthful look.

Here are some tips on how to adjust your lifestyle for younger looking eyes:

  1. Get sufficient sleep: Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night to allow your body to rejuvenate and repair.
  2. Stay hydrated: Drink an adequate amount of water daily to maintain hydration, which helps plump up the skin.
  3. Eat a balanced diet: Include nutrient-rich foods, particularly those high in antioxidants, such as fruits, vegetables, and omega-3 fatty acids found in fish, to support skin health.
  4. Avoid smoking: Smoking accelerates skin aging, including around the eyes, by damaging collagen and elastin fibers.
  5. Minimize eye strain: Take breaks when working on screens, use proper lighting, and maintain good eye hygiene to reduce strain and fatigue. Castor oil is a great eyelid treatment if you suffer from dry eyes, like me.
  6. Consider professional treatments: If you're looking for more intensive ways to address aging concerns in the eye area, consult with a dermatologist or aesthetician, like myself. They can suggest treatments such as chemical peels, laser resurfacing, or injectables like Botox or dermal fillers to target specific issues like wrinkles.

In addition to removing your makeup there are other ways you can care for your eyes, too. Choosing the right eye cream can be tricky so we've made it simple:

Sensitive eyes? Try our Soothing Eye Balm, created for mature, sensitive skin, which can be used throughout the day as a nourishing calming balm or as an overnight eye treatment to help restore aging skin.

Dry, crepey eyes? Try our Eye Dream of Sleep over night mask designed to give your eyes the extra TLC it needs for ultra hydration and repair. May be worn alone or over your favorite PM eye cream to help rejuvenate your compromised skin!

Dark circles and puffiness? We recommend our ultra emollient, Eye Dream of Coffee Eye, designed to help you lessen the appearance of dark under eye circles, reduce eye area puffiness and soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, often accompanied by crepey skin.

Anti-aging nighttime treatment? Our lightweight, hydrating, Restorative PM Eye Cream is the perfect compliment to your anti-aging Retinol treatment! Need both? You can save big money with our Age Defying PM kit.

Low maintenance age-defying routine? Did you know that our Whipped Olive Oil Face Butter was created to be used on your eyes, face and neck? If you're looking for ONE cream to wear day and night that helps restore your dry, crepey, dehydrated skin back to its radiant, healthy glow, this is it.

We believe that our cold-pressed Olive Oil (and Squalane, olive derivative) holds an advantage over others because we source ours from one place (our family farm in Italy) to ensure the highest quality EVOO for your skin. There's no other oil that's better for your dry, mature skin, because after 40 you start to lose water, Hyaluronic Acid and Oil that your body normally produces and EVOO acts powerfully like a skin barrier to help you lock in moisture and prevent water loss.

Remember, consistency is key when it comes to caring for the eye area. Regularly following these practices and adopting a healthy lifestyle can help maintain a youthful appearance and promote overall eye health.

The more you know the more you glow!
