How to Look 10 Years Younger With Makeup (Warning: It's Not What You Think!)

Hey Beautiful!

Do you know that using simple makeup hacks, like applying our Matte Beige Brow Highlighter (that's typically used around your eyes) around your lips can help keep your lip color from bleeding?

You don't need to watch an hour long Youtube Video or have advanced skills to give your eyes and face a little lift.

So today I’ll share a few of my easy and favorite beauty tips to make you feel and look more youthful, because as you know (if you’re over 40 like me) age brings wisdom, but it also brings things with it like a loss of collagen, which means the way in which you apply your makeup needs to change, too.

Let's get started!

1) Controversial Primers:  Do you really need them? I see a lot of people on different platforms saying that you don't need primer. Most of these people are popular, but they're not beauty professionals. It's like going to your bestie for dental advice. Need I say more?

Primers work because they contain special ingredients, like silicones, that help smooth out the texture of your skin and help your makeup stay on longer.

While it's true that primer may not be right for everyone, especially if you don't wear makeup, don't have any textural issues or wrinkles or simply don't want to apply it, it still plays an essential role that moisturizer alone will not play.

The wonderful news is that these days you can often find primer built into other products you normally use, like our Priming Duo, so you don't even have to apply an extra step in your routine, which can be lifesaving when you're in a hurry but still want to look and feel put together.

2) How to Lift and Brighten Your Eyes: Do you really need surgery or fancy procedures to lift your eye area? In most cases, the answer is no.

The exception tends to be if you have very saggy skin and eye bags, because in this case it's difficult to hide or correct with a cream. However, there are skin tissue rejuvenation services, like Tixel, that may be helpful if you want a longer-term (yet, still temporary) fix. It's important to note that they do come with a larger price tag and down time.

When you have puffy or dark dark eyes, especially, you have to be careful because if you apply the wrong type of highlighter(s) in the wrong area it'll make your eyes appear more puffy or hooded.

But the simplest hack I can give you is to use a highlighter, like our Matte Beige Brow Highlighter, that doesn't have sparkle or shine. Since it's matte, it gives you the opportunity to use it in more ways than you can count and best of all -- its tackier consistency makes it ideal for staying on all day long!

My favorite tip is to use it right underneath your brow bone to give yourself an instant eye lift in seconds, as shown here in our viral TikTok tutorial.

Pro tip! To brighten dark under eye circles prep with a caffeinated eye cream before applying your concealer, because it constricts blood vessels!

3) Best Foundations and Concealers for Mature Skin: Let's get this misconception out of the way: Any makeup you apply too much of will cake or crease!

The truth is that your skin often dictates the way your makeup will look (i.e. think of when you have a scab, pimple or scar and you try to apply makeup over it).  So I always recommend prepping the skin properly with a good moisturizer, like our Whipped Olive Oil Face Butter, and as a general rule of thumb - avoid over cleansing and picking at your skin, which can leave you with flakey dry patches or scar tissue build up.

Oh yeah, and if you've heard of the new "jello skin" trend, you're already ahead of the game because after 40 you already know to use Hyaluronic Acid, a good moisturizer and a moisturizing tinted primer to achieve a plumper, more youthful appearance.

Since we lose moisture under our eyes it’s best to use a full coverage creamy concealer with setting spray instead of powder and use a powder foundation over your primer, like our Mineral Liquid Powder Foundation, so that you don’t have to apply powder over it, unless you want a dewy finish — if you want a dewy finish but you don’t want to look ‘shiny’ then prep your skin with a primer, use your full coverage foundation of choice and press moisturizer (not oil) over it.

Pro tip! When and if your skin feels shiny throughout the day, use a blotting sheet to negate the oiliness!

Bottom line is, it doesn’t matter what makeup routine you have if you’re not taking care of your skin, because your skin will dictate so much of how your skin looks. But regardless of where you are on your skincare journey, you can apply these simple makeup techniques that will help you look and feel your best without surgery!

Remember, the more you know the more you glow.
